Unite 4 Democracy (U4D) is dedicated to fostering a safe, welcoming, and respectful environment for everyone who participates in our actions, and events. We believe that non-violence is more than a strategy — it is a guiding principle that nurtures democracy, justice, and dignity for all.

Our group works to prevent authoritarianism through peaceful protest, civic education, and active participation in the democratic process.

Our History

Our Beginnings

Unite 4 Democracy (U4D) was born on March 25, 2023, when our founders, Steve and Linda, along with a small group of friends, took a bold stand on State Street in Lake Oswego, Oregon. What began as a quiet weekly demonstration against the rising threats to our democracy and Constitution quickly sparked a movement. As challenges to our Republic grew, more citizens stepped forward—united by a shared commitment to truth, justice, and civic action.

In our early growth, we connected with the national Indivisible organization as an official local group, expanding our reach and strengthening our voice. We’re also proudly affiliated with COIN (Consolidated Oregon Indivisible Network), a statewide alliance of grassroots groups, as well as other local Indivisible organizations across the region. Together, we form a growing network of engaged citizens working in solidarity to protect and defend democratic values at every level.

Growing Together

Today, U4D has grown into a vibrant community of engaged Americans who love their country. Each Saturday, an average of 225 people gather in peaceful manner with powerful visibility from 10–11 AM on State Street in Lake Oswego.

Our mailing list now connects over 1,200 supporters who participate in a variety of events—from weekly visibility gatherings, discussions and meaningful film nights at the Lake Theater to the development of original projects like our upcoming theatrical production, UNITE!. Together, we are raising our voices, building community, and proving that everyday people can make an extraordinary difference.
